Wayne Pitman Ford honours the past and embraces the future
Reaching half a century in business is more than a milestone. It is a testament to how you operate, your resilience, and to the trust and relationships you have worked hard to build for generations.
In the case of Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln, it is a celebration of community. As the family owned and operated, local dealership celebrates its 50th anniversary with many special events planned throughout this year, they mark five decades of "Driving the Community".
"It all started with our Founder, my great-uncle and the namesake of the dealership, Wayne Pitman. 'Driving the Community' was his motto since he opened the doors in 1976," said Doug Bricknell, Operations Manager at Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln.
"What 'Driving the Community' means to us is not only caring for people around us in terms of selling and servicing their vehicles, but also giving back to the community that supports us."
"It's a significant part of our purpose, mission, vision, and values. We work here. We live here. We do business here. We support the community and each other. It's the Guelph way." said Wayne Bricknell, now Owner and President/Dealer Principal. "Our community is strongest when people adopt that mentality. We all, whether we know it or not, vote with our dollars and choices. Where you buy and who you buy from matters."
"We've seen a lot of changes in the car business over the years and the industry is changing rapidly every day. We are dedicated to staying current, embracing new technology, investing in our facility and in training for our team to stay relevant and provide the best possible experience for our guests."
The story of Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln is one that reflects the story of Guelph itself, which has seen its population grow from 67,540 people in 1976 to over 165,000 people in 2026. At the time Wayne Pitman acquired his Ford franchise -- then known as Carl Small Motors -- the Guelph Auto Mall was still a concept. Wayne Pitman worked closely with fellow automotive entrepreneurs Howard Robinson, Barry Cullen, and Ted Woods to establish a new automotive hub for Guelph on Woodlawn Road West. Now the Guelph Auto Mall is one of the larger centres of its kind in Canada with over 18 different manufacturer brands represented in a 3km stretch.
From the earliest days of launching his dealership, Wayne Pitman modeled his business philosophy after that of his father, Maurice, who moved his family to Guelph from Toronto to open Guelph Motor Products, a dealership that sold Chevrolet, Cadillac, as well as Frigidaire appliances all under one roof. The business was located in downtown Guelph on Wellington Street across from Angel's Diner and Franco's Barbershop. Maurice Pitman was meticulous with his vehicles, a sharp dresser, and a family man with a keen desire to take care of his customers and his staff. These traits and this philosophy, learned from his father, would go on to shape Wayne Pitman's approach to life and business.
Over 30 years ago, Wayne Pitman called upon his nephew, Wayne Bricknell, to join him at the dealership. Mr. Bricknell has since carried the torch with pride and gratitude, determined to uphold the Pitman standard and the pursuit excellence.
With their 50th anniversary year upon them, the Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln team is excited to announce that they will be rolling out a program of events and activities designed not only to celebrate the dealership but also to engage the community.
"We're going to be celebrating our history as well as the innovations, developments, and improvements we're making to better serve our guests in Guelph and the surrounding area," Wayne Bricknell said.
"Our team is focused on sustainable growth, just like our city. We're looking to progress and continue to be a trusted, local source for all things automotive. New cars, pre-owned vehicles, service, parts, tires at a great price for any type of vehicle, advice, and more. In addition to our business goals, we're also planning on having some fun and inviting the community to come and celebrate with us. It's an achievement that can only be realized because of the community. It's not like we did this all on our own. Without our guests we wouldn't be here. We are grateful for their support and loyalty and we plan on celebrating with them."
